What the KOMY Phone really costs.

Good to know: Komy speaks German. Voice, stories, encyclopedia, learning games and the parents’ app are in German; contract language and legal texts are German as well.

The prices

Added up

First year = the phone (one-off) plus twelve months of the KOMY service (€60 at once or 12 × €5.99 with data SIM, €49 or 12 × €4.99 with your own SIM). From the second year on you only pay for the service, monthly: €5.99 or €4.99 – the same with every device.

All prices include 19% VAT; shipping within Germany is included. The service starts on the day of dispatch; today only the phone is paid for.

Why not just a cheap phone with a children’s app?

Because an app on a normal phone does not change the phone: the store is still underneath, so is the browser, and both are only a few taps away. The KOMY Phone is a device that cannot step outside its limits – no browser, no store, no outside apps, not even after a restart. And then there is Komy, who exists nowhere else.

A monthly fee is common in this market – children’s smartwatches and children’s phones from other providers charge the same way. With us it does not pay for a lock but for keeping things running: the data SIM, the servers that keep your phones in sync and the further development. And you can cancel it without the phone becoming unusable.

Not a throw-away device

The phone belongs to you, not to us. When your child outgrows the KOMY Phone, you release it in the parents’ app (“Gerät freigeben”, confirmed by typing the word FREIGEBEN). After that the phone is a perfectly normal Android smartphone: all apps, normal home screen, no locks. So you do not buy a second phone for the next school. Samsung promises six Android upgrades and six years of security updates for the Galaxy A17 5G; for the Blackview Wave 7C the manufacturer states at least six years of software updates in EPREL.

On release, what your child did with Komy is deleted from the phone; the encrypted backup on your parent phone stays. You cancel the KOMY service separately via the cancellation button. The step cannot be undone on the phone. The release is part of every KOMY Phone we deliver.

No mobile contract, no long term

• Short commitment. Paid monthly, the service ends at the end of the current month; paid yearly, it first runs for twelve months and then continues monthly at the monthly price, cancellable monthly. You cancel via the cancellation button, no call, no letter.
• The phone stays yours. Without the service, the KOMY data SIM is switched off. Everything else keeps working as long as the phone has Wi-Fi or a SIM of your own. With the service you pay for the data SIM, the further development and the running of the servers that messages, Sprechfunk and safe places go through.
• 14-day right of withdrawal. Within 14 days of receipt you can withdraw from the order without giving reasons; the phone goes back, you get the purchase price refunded. Right of withdrawal (German).
• Delivery within 5–8 working days after payment, within Germany, included in the price. Payment is handled securely via Stripe – by PayPal, card, SEPA direct debit or, depending on the device, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Parents’ app: Android today, iPhone planned

The parents’ app is currently available for Android; all features are there. With an iPhone you set up the KOMY Phone directly on the device, in parent mode behind your Komy code – that works today. A parents’ page in the browser for location, messages and chores is planned, but work on it has not started yet. Until then, location, messages, chores and the SOS alert only arrive on an Android phone or tablet, and the device can only be released with the parents’ app. A dedicated iPhone app is planned, with no date yet. Please take this into account before buying.

Family rate: how the proof works

The family rate – the KOMY Phone with the Blackview Wave 7C for €149 – is for families receiving Kinderzuschlag, Wohngeld or Bürgergeld. As proof, a photo or scan of the first page of the current notice by e-mail to me@sysea.de is enough; you may black out amounts. We only check that the notice is in your name and current, send you the voucher code and delete the proof afterwards.

Accessibility: what the KOMY Phone can do

The KOMY Phone is a locked device – a child cannot get into the Android settings, and so not into Android’s accessibility settings either. That is why each of these settings is built into the KOMY Phone itself and is not just a pointer to a system menu. Your child finds them on the home screen under “So passt es mir” (how I like it). None of it costs extra.

• “Wie groß soll die Schrift sein?” (how big should the text be?) – three sizes: Normal, Größer (larger), Ganz groß (very large).
• “Alles deutlicher” (everything clearer) – grey secondary text is shown in the full text colour, for eyes that need more contrast.
• “Farben, die ich gut unterscheide” (colours I can tell apart) – wherever colour tells things apart (subjects in the timetable, the German articles der/die/das), a colour set is used that stays easy to tell apart with red-green colour blindness too. Colour is never the only information anyway: it is always there as a word as well.
• “Ich möchte mitlesen” (I want to read along) – what Komy says always appears as text as well.
• “Auch spüren und sehen” (feel and see it too) – the alarm clock, a message from you and your answer to an SOS vibrate and flash in addition to the sound.
• “Weniger auf einmal” (less at once) – less confetti and fewer showers of stars in the routine and when packing the school bag.
• SOS with two taps – the SOS button never has to be held down.
• “Alles vorlesen lassen” (have everything read aloud) – this is the switch for TalkBack, Android’s screen reader, for children who cannot see the screen. It stays active in the locked children’s mode too. On the devices we ship it is prepared and can simply be switched on in “So passt es mir”; otherwise you enable it once, behind the Komy code, in Android’s “Bedienungshilfen” (accessibility) settings – an app is not allowed to switch on a screen reader by itself.
• “Ohne Kinder-Code öffnen” (open without the child code) – if the four pictures are too hard, the phone opens when your child taps Komy. You flip this switch on the KOMY Phone, with your Komy code.
• “Hilfsmittel verbinden” (connect assistive devices) – a hearing aid, headphones, a switch or a keyboard can be paired over Bluetooth. You approve each device one by one.

One detail that mattered to us: the picture keypad for the child code speaks too, but it only says “n von 4 Bildern gewählt” (n of 4 pictures chosen) – never which pictures. A screen reader that read out the code would give it away to anyone standing nearby.

To be honest about what has been tested: on a real device we have confirmed that the screen reader starts and speaks in the locked children’s mode, that the interface can be operated with it, that a double tap on Komy on the lock screen opens the picture keypad and that its pictures are read out by name. That covers the interface, the lock screen and the picture code – not every single screen of the app. We list the features for you and do not claim any certification seal. How long there will be updates

A children’s phone should last for years – so here is how long it will be supported, and not just in the small print.

• The Galaxy A17 5G: Samsung promises six Android upgrades and six years of security updates for it. The model has been on the EU market since the end of July 2025 (EPREL registration 2364744), so the security updates run until July 2031.
• The Blackview Wave 7C: in the EU product database EPREL (registration 2612304), Blackview states at least six years of software updates. The model has been on the EU market since the end of January 2026.
• The KOMY software: there will be updates for the children’s phone and the parents’ app at least until July 2031 – that is, at least as long as the Galaxy A17 5G receives security updates. They reach the phone through our own channel, not through an app store your child could see.
• What this means for you: security-relevant updates are part of what you are entitled to expect when you buy (§ 475b BGB, the German Civil Code). If an update does not arrive, get in touch – that is a defect, not a matter of goodwill.

Energy label and product information sheet

The official EU energy label for each of the two devices, from the European product database EPREL. It has applied to smartphones since 20 June 2025 and tells you more than just the power consumption.

What the service pays for

With the service you pay for the data SIM, the further development of both apps and the running of the servers: the KOMY server, which voices a word when Komy does not know a first name or a school subject yet, and the servers that safe places, the parents’ messages and SOS go through between your phones.
